Compton, Calif. - The Baseball Team finished up their Southern California trip over the weekend where they won their of four games against Marymount.
Friday, the Red Hawks started the day off strong getting the win in game one with a final of 11-1.
SU put up the first run of the game in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly by
Shane Ogata that brought Nate Minami home.
Payton Edwards added to the lead in the top of the third with a single that scored
Micah Kele. Minami hit a homerun to put SU up 3-0 in the top of the fourth.
Simpson held off Marymount until the bottom of the fourth inning, where the Mariners scored their only run of the game.
The Red Hawks ran with the lead in the sixth and seventh, adding four runs each inning.
Game two, Simpson was able to keep the scoring going, but unable to keep Marymount off the board.
The Mariners scored eight runs in the first four innings, but the Red Hawks weren't going down without a fight. SU put up nine runs in the top of the sixth, taking the lead 9-8. However, it didn't last long as Marymount tied it up in the bottom of the inning, later scoring three in the bottom of the seventh. In the top of the eight, the Red Hawks added two runs, but it wouldn't be enough as they ultimately fell, 12-11.
Simpson struggled on Saturday, unable to put up enough runs to hold off Marymount.
Game one, SU only had one run, which came in the top of the seventh off a single by Edwards that scored Ogata. The Red Hawks fell, 4-1.
Game two was closer. Simpson scored eight runs in the top of the second to give them an 8-3 lead. The defense struggled to protect the lead as the Red Hawks fell, 9-8.
Simpson will be back at home on March 25th and 26th to face Embry-Riddle. Games are set for 6 PM on Friday and 12 PM and 3 PM on Saturday.
