SURPRISE, MESA & GILBERT, AZ - The Men's Volleyball Team was in Arizona over the weekend taking on a top ranked team and two Cal Pac teams, falling just short in each match.
On Friday, Simpson took on #2 ranked Ottawa University in Surprise, AZ. The first set the Red Hawks were getting into the rhythm, falling 25-16. The next two sets were much closer, with the finals being 25-20 and 25-21, respectively. Even with the loss, SU showed they can hang with top-ranked teams. The Red Hawks had 30 kills and five blocks.
Saturday, Simpson took on Benedictine-Mesa for the second time this season. Despite the Red Hawks giving up all three sets, they were within four points in each one.
Set one finished 25-21, set two 25-23 and set three 25-22. The Red Hawks had 32 kills and four blocks.
Flavio Mercado had a season high 13 kills during the match.
Simpson finished off the trip taking on Park-Gilbert, taking the match to five sets.
Set one went to the Buccaneers with a final of 25-19. The Red Hawks took set two, 26-24. The Buccaneers got their second set, taking the third, 25-21. The Red Hawks tied it up at two sets apiece by taking the fourth, 26-24. In the final set, the Red Hawks came up just short, falling 15-12.
Simpson recorded 55 kills, seven blocks and seven aces.
Christian Murry had a season high 17 kills and 19 points.
Judah Myers also had a season high 11 kills.
SU will be back on its home court on March 18th, taking on Westcliff at 6 PM.
