Men's Basketball Moves Into First Place With Win Over Benedictine

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball moved into first place in the Cal Pac Conference Friday night after a 75-65 win over Benedictine-Mesa.

The Red Hawks rallied after a frustrating loss 24 hours ago against Park Gilbert to take down Benedictine behind a dominant second-half performance.

Head Coach Todd Franklin put his coaching ability on display with some halftime adjustments that caused issues for Benedictine offensively as Simpson held BenU to 30 percent from the field in the second half.

Gary Mims was once again Simpson's leading scorer finishing with 19 points and four rebounds. Javonntie Jackson added 13 points alongside five rebounds and Aaron Burt dropped in 12 points.

SU was able to get to the free throw line 34 times tonight, converting 25 of them in what was a factor in the Red Hawks' win.

The game was full of whistles with a total of 48 fouls called on the evening and three players fouled out.

With the victory, the Red Hawks hold first place at 2-1 in Cal Pac play with the third leg of the Arizona trio coming on Sunday against Embry-Riddle. The game tips off at 4 PM in the Grant Center.
