REDDING, Calif. - Simpson men's basketball begins its season this Friday at home against Lincoln University and has set big expectations for another big season.
Last year the Red Hawks finished 15-8 overall and 10-3 in league play, the best conference record for the Red Hawks in recent history. And with Cal Pac Player of the Year and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention,
Gary Mims returning for his senior season, Simpson is set to continue the program's upward trend.
Simpson opens its season on Friday at home and will face off against Lincoln, coached by NBA Hall-of-Fame point guard Gary Payton. Followed immediately by a matchup with 6th ranked William Jessup, the Red Hawks are quickly testing themselves early in the 2022-23 campaign.
With returners like Mims and
Morgan Cox, and additions such as
Aaron Burt,
Javonntie Jackson,
Akin Branco,
Daylon Potts, Ryan Troutman, and more, the Red Hawks are built for another must-watch season on the hardwood.
"We are built different this year," Coach Franklin says, "We will playing without a traditional big, due to a late drop, but I am excited to see what this group of inter-changeable position-less players can accomplish in an ever-improving conference."
SU will begin conference play in November this year facing PUC on the road to open up Cal Pac play on November 21st.
For fans looking to catch the Red Hawks in action this weekend, they will play Lincoln U on Friday, at 6 PM, and Sunday at 5 PM against William Jessup University.
