REDDING. Calif. - In tonight's conference opener against the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers, the Simpson Women's Basketball Team battled until the very last whistle blew. The Red Hawks came up just short, losing by just one point for a final score of 63-62.
SU led the UAV pioneers the first six minutes of the first quarter. They led the Pioneers by as much as 13 points in the second quarter and by 13 points in the fourth with just over eight minutes left in the game.
UAV battled back tying the game 62-62 with just 26 seconds left to play. Unfortunately for the Red Hawks, UAV's Ryan Terry would sink her free throw to take the lead. With seconds left on the clock, the Simpson Women's Basketball team wouldn't be able to make another basket, making them 0-1 in conference play.
Sandra Berrocal would lead her team with 16 points, followed by
Tymiko Patterson with 15 and
Kelsie Graf with 10.
The Simpson Women fought hard all game, and are looking forward to their second conference game this Monday, January 17th. Gametime will be at 5:30 PM in the James M. Grant Center against La Sierra University.
