REDDING, CA - Simpson University softball opened its 2021 season Friday afternoon taking on Southern Oregon University in a doubleheader where the Raiders won both contests, 12-0 and 3-2.
After a slow start in game one of the series, the Red Hawks rallied back from being down three runs in game two to put themselves in a position to win it in the 7th inning. SOU responded by bringing ace Gabby Sandoval to close the door and give the Raiders the two-game sweep.
Simpson starter,
Sunshine Wehunt threw all seven innings in game two giving up just three runs to the red-hot Raiders. The Red Hawks struggled at the plate recording just three hits spanning both games and did not tally a hit in the 12-0 game one shutout.
The Red Hawks continue their opening weekend as they will face Corban University in a four-game series beginning tomorrow at 12 pm on the Simpson Softball Field.
