Men's Soccer Beats UC Merced For First Time In Program History

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 REDDING, Calif. - This past Sunday, Simpson men's soccer recorded its first win over UC Merced in program history. Merced since its inception has been one of the best soccer programs on the west coast in the NAIA.

Simpson men's soccer in the past two seasons has had some amazing feats including picking up huge wins and playoff appearances and with the win against Merced, they continue to rally off some 'firsts'.

The Red Hawks received an incredible performance from Jaime Gutierrez Velasco recording two goals and an assist in the 4-2 win over the Bobcats. Diego Alvarez netted the other two goals for Simpson as the Red Hawks pulled off the upset to keep their momentum heading towards playoffs in a few weeks.

In a back and forth contest, the Red Hawks maintained stability in the midfield and in the backline while the attackers made some key runs to get into dangerous spots on the pitch.

SU has just two conference matches remaining before the Cal Pac Conference tournament later in November. The Red Hawks will take on Cal Maritime on Tuesday, November 2nd at Redding Soccer Park with kickoff set for 3 PM.
