Women's Soccer Sweeps Weekend In Arizona

REDDING, Calif. - The Women's soccer team was on the road in Arizona over the weekend where they tallied two wins, sweeping the trip. 

On Friday, Simpson took on the rival RedHawks from Benedictine-Mesa. 

The first half was scoreless with both teams getting shots off, but unable to find the back of the net. 

SU got the scoring underway in the second half. In the 56th minute, Caroline Forseth gave Simpson a 1-0 lead with an assist by Haylee Ward

13 minutes later, Benedictine tied up the game with a goal by Baylie Saunders.

With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Haylee Ward gave the Red Hawks the lead, and ultimately the win.

On top of the two goals by SU, Kiah Gridley recorded six saves.

The win over Benedictine is the first in Simpson history. 

On Sunday, Simpson faced Park University Gilbert in a shut-out game by the Red Hawks. 

Caroline Forseth scored first for SU in the 6th minute with her second goal of the weekend, assisted by Haylee Ward

Haylee Ward put up two for the Red Hawks within two minutes of each other. Her first goal came in the 60th minute with her second coming in the 62nd. Kylie Hokanson recorded an assist on the second goal. 

The last goal was scored by Zyree Raban, Haylee Ward getting her third assist of the weekend. 

The sweep gave Simpson a conference record of 4-1-1.

SU is set to play at home against Pacific Union on Sunday, October 24.
