VALLEJO, Calif. – The Red Hawks marched down to Vallejo Saturday night to take on CSU Maritime. Simson had the night off on Thursday, giving the team all week to prepare for the game on the road. The extra time truly showed as SU would get the 24-point victory and avenge a four-point loss earlier in conference play.
When the Red Hawks took the lead in the first quarter they never looked back. Outscoring the Keel haulers by 10 in the first half, and 14 in the second.
SU was led by Seniors on their way to the double-digit victory.
Lexi Thompson started the game and scored 12 points in 34 minutes of playing time.
Whitney Armstrong added eight points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Alli Ramelli grabbed a team high nine rebounds to go alongside six assists and two points.
The Red Hawk bench was also instrumental in the win. Sharpshooter
Natalie Campos came off the SU bench to add 13 points with three triples in 21 minutes.
Kayla Bonomini had her best game of the season thus far, scoring 11 points while grabbing four rebounds.
Samarra Fernandez was also big off the bench pulling down nine rebounds, leading the team with Ramelli, while adding seven points of her own.
The win in Vallejo elevates SU to 3-5 in conference action.
The Red Hawks enjoyed the night off Thursday but picked up an extra non-conference game on Sunday at UC Santa Cruz. SU would go on to defeat the Banana Slugs 67-62.
Simpson's starters did most of the heavy lifting in the game on Sunday, combining for 50 of the Red Hawks 67 points.
Samarra Fernandez made her way into the SU starting lineup and scored nine points to go along with nine boards.
Kayla Gairns made her second start of the year and nearly posted a double-double with 11 rebounds and nine points.
Alli Ramelli led the Red Hawks with 13 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
SU will resume conference play on Thursday, taking on Embry-Riddle at home. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 in the James M. Grant Center.
