Simpson Unable to Extend Win Streak Against Embry-Riddle

The Red Hawks led by one at the half, but fall to ERAU 67-49.

REDDING, Calif. – The Red Hawks took to the James M. Grant Center Thursday night to take on the Cal Pac Conference's best team, the Embry-Riddle Eagles. Simpson took a two game winning streak into Thursday night's matchup, determined to play spoiler to ERAU's 8-0 conference record. The Red Hawks took a one-point lead into the locker room at the half, but were unable to get the upset falling to the Eagles 67-49.

The Red Hawks went with the starting line-up of Thompson, Ramelli, Fernandez, Armstrong, and Gairns, and much like the weekend prior the Red Hawks got off to a hot start. Seniors Lexi Thompson and Whitney Armstrong combined for nine points in the opening four minutes to help SU take a quick 11-5 lead.

Neither team held onto the lead for long in the first half. ERAU had the lead to start the second quarter, but Natalie Campos continued to shoot the ball with confidence off the bench, drilling a triple to retake the lead for SU and adding to her total of eight points in the first.

The Red Hawks headed to the locker room with a one-point lead. SU kept the Eagles close through the third, trailing by two points with ten minutes to go. The tides would turn in the fourth and the Eagles would take control of the game.

Natalie Campos was the lone double-digit scorer for the Red Hawks, posting 13 points in 21 minutes off the bench.

Precious Jackson also came off the SU bench and grabbed a game high 11 rebound to go alongside eight points and two assists.

Seniors Alli Ramelli and Whitney Armstrong also added eight points apiece. Ramelli pulled down eight boards on the night in her 33-minute effort.

The Red Hawks have a day to regroup before taking on Benedictine at home on Saturday night. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 PM as SU looks to get the season sweep against the Redhawks, defeating them 63-59 earlier this season.
