Red Hawks Fall by One to Benedictine

Simpson victim to first half offensive struggles, falls to Ben U 58-57

CHANDLER, Ariz. – After defeating Cal Maritime the week prior and advancing to 1-0 in conference play, the Red Hawks fall by a lone point to Benedictine Mesa Saturday night.

Simpson fell victim to offensive struggles in the first half and took an 11-point deficit into the locker room after the first.  The Red Hawks were able to battle back and take the lead in the second but were ultimately unable to complete the second half comeback.

The starting backcourt duo of Dylan Banks and Christian Alvis combined for 29 points and were the two leading scorers with 16 and 13 points respectively.
Kon Anguik recorded nine points and nine rebounds for SU.

Blake Trent was not his normal consistent self from behind the arc, shooting a rare 1-6 from deep. Trent still found a way to make an impact in his game high 35 minutes on the court however, ending the game with nine points and 10 rebounds.

After getting the Cal Pac Player of the week nod for his big performance in last week's win, Nathan Presnell was just unable to get anything going on the road.

Despite not getting their usual performances from key contributors, Simpson can build on the fact that players like Weston Vandenhazel and Harvey Barr stepped up off the bench and contributed solid minutes during SU's comeback attempt.

The Red Hawks stay in Arizona for the weekend and will take on the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday at 6:30 Pacific time.
