ROCKLIN, Calif. - Simpson University women's volleyball took to the hardwood this past weekend to face some of the top teams in the West Coast in the William Jessup Invitational.
The Red Hawks began the tourney by facing Oregon Tech and pushed the Hustlin' Owls to their limit in the first and third set, but still lost in straight sets.
Lily Johnson led SU with 18 kills and recorded five assists and 12 digs. Libero,
Marianne Soria finished the first match with 17 digs.
Later on day one, SU clashed with Menlo College and again put up a good fight forcing a fourth set and nearly pushing it to a deciding set before falling 27-25 in the fourth. The Red Hawks showed improvement from when they faced Menlo College just a week earlier.
On day two, Simpson took on host William Jessup and No. SOU and was swept by both clubs and ultimately falling in all four matches on the weekend.
After facing numerous tough opponents, the Red Hawks are prepared to for conference play beginning on September 20th when SU hosts Providence Christian College for the Home Opener with first serve set for 7 PM.
