REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University advances to the winner's bracket of the Cal Pac Championship tournament after a 3-1 victory over the number three seed, Embry-Riddle Eagles.
The Red Hawks got all the runs they would need in the 3rd inning after
Madison Wright came up with a clutch two-RBI double that plated
Mia Olvera and
Courtney Clevenger.
Emily Fuller then followed with an RBI single of her own that brought in Wright to give SU a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning.
That's all the run support that Simpson ace,
Sydney Moorhead would need. Moorhead scattered five Eagles' hits while recording two strikeouts and had a confident presence in the circle that struck fear in Embry-Riddle's hitters.
Simpson now looks ahead to the top seeded Marymount Mariners who took down La Sierra in their first game 6-4. The Red Hawks split with Marymount earlier in a four game series.
The two teams face off for a chance to get to the Cal Pac Tournament Championship game tomorrow at 12 pm at Simpson University. Live video and stats are available
