ATHERTON, Calif. – The Red Hawks split the two game series with Menlo College, dropping game one 8-7, but dominating game two, 9-2.
In game one, Menlo scored three times in the 2
nd inning and three again in the 5
th, but Simpson managed to come all the way back from being down 7-3 to tie the game in the 6
th inning after
Gentry Hoffman brought in
Riley Roach on a RBI triple.
Madison Wright,
De'Ja Williams,
Emily Fuller, and
Courtney Clevenger all tallied two hits for Simpson. Clevenger and
Gentry Hoffman combined for four RBIs in the first game of the doubleheader.
In game two, the Red Hawks offense continued to stay hot bringing four runs in two separate innings. In the top of the 1
st,
Gentry Hoffman hit a bases loaded triple to score three runs to start the game off on a good note for Simpson.
Ashley Oakley then brought in Hoffman on a fielder's choice and would eventually also bring in
De'Ja Williams in the 3
rd inning on a single. The Red Hawks continued to pour it on in the 6
th as
Gentry Hoffman continue her impressive day with a 2 RBI double, giving her 7 RBIs on the day.
Sunshine Wehunt pitched the best game of her young career, recording the complete game victory only allowing four hits and two runs against a solid Menlo offense.
Gentry Hoffman has quickly entered her bid for Cal Pac Player of the Week with a five hit, including two triples and seven RBI day in a career outing for the sophomore.
The Red Hawks will have a day off before they face Menlo College again on Sunday, March 10
th with a doubleheader beginning at 11 am.
