REDDING, Calif. - Simpson Baseball took their home field this weekend to square of against #23 Benedictine.
The Red Hawks opened the series with a win in a very competitive game one. Simpson took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning as
Derick Kuhn,
Nathan Minami, and
Sam Nakata were all brought across the plate. The Red Hawks plated two more runs in the seventh as
Michael Driscoll was able to bring home both
Austen Salcedo and
Christopher Brue with a single to left field. SU would go on to win the first game 5-4.
Vincent Cervantes came in as relief for the Red Hanks and got the win, striking out three without giving up a run in three innings of work.
The second game of the day was just as thrilling as the first.
Austen Salcedo,
Gil Loza,
James Turnbull, and
Michael Driscoll all scored for the Red Hawks but after the bottom of the ninth the scored was locked 4-4. Simpson tried to string together some offense in extras but great fielding by Benedictine kept SU scoreless. The Red Hawks would go on to lose game two 8-4 after twelve.
The third game of the series also went to the visitors with a score of 9-5.
Nathan Minami went 2/4 at the plate and hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. Jonathan Lui went 2/3 at the plate and batted in two runs.
The Red Hawks fall to 4-5 in conference play but look to bounce back next weekend as they travel to Marymount to take on the Mariners.
