Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Defense Propels the Red Hawks to Victory

ANGWIN, Calif. - Simpson men's basketball's excellent half court defense continues to be a pillar for the Red Hawks' success as they take down Pacific Union 72-60.

The Red Hawks held the Pioneers to just 29 percent shooting from the field all night long and only allowed PUC to hit five 3-pointers in 22 attempts.

Jalen Cooper showed out for Simpson, playing one of his best games of his career, tallying a game-high 19 points on 9-11, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing seven assists. JT Branch was all over the floor tonight recording 16 points while altering numerous shots at the rim. Jon Manjon was a handful down low all evening finishing with 14 points on 7-10 from the field.

The Red Hawks' ability to rely on other pieces when their top scorer, Blake Trent, goes 2-13 from the floor, bodes well for their postseason push.

Simpson is now a win away from clinching postseason berth as they currently sit just one game back of 1st place Antelope Valley with three regular season games remaining.

The Cal Pac grind continues on Saturday as SU clashes with a tough defense in the UC Merced Bobcats at home in Redding, Calif. at 7:30 pm in the Grant Center.
