ANGWIN, Calif. - Simpson women's basketball pulls off the blowout win over Pacific Union College, 76-43 and improve to 17-9 on the season.
After a slow start, SU found themselves up by just two at the end of the first quarter. However, in the second quarter, all of that changed. The Red Hawks exploded to score 25 second quarter points and outscored PUC by 18 points including a 14-0 run at one point. Simpson high-stepped to the final horn after that monster second quarter.
SU out-rebounded Pacific Union by 19 and only allowed three offensive rebounds for the game in its entirety. The Red Hawks also drilled a season-high 14 three pointers, five coming from
Natalie Campos off the bench.
Estella Gutierrez and
Natalie Campos each tallied 15 points combining for eight 3 pointers.
Madison Cox recorded 12 points on 5-7 and
Alli Ramelli was also in double figures with 11 points in 18 minutes.
The Red Hawks now have a nine-game winning streak over the Pioneers dating back until the 2014-15 season.
Derrick Pringle Jr. has now equaled his best seasons win total with 17 with still three regular season games left and at least one postseason game. The Red Hawks currently sit in the 3rd seed in the Cal Pac with their postseason ticket already punched.
Simpson will face off against UC Merced, the team right below them in the standings, on Saturday, Feb. 9th at 5:30 pm in the Grant Center on the campus of Simpson University.
