MESA, Ariz. - In the 2017-18 season, the Benedictine Redhawks had Simpson's number in women's basketball winning both contests by a combined 45 points. It's been a whole new story in the 2018-19 season, as Simpson has completed the two game sweep of BenU Mesa with tonight's 74-69 victory.
Four Simpson starters recorded double digit scoring nights, led by
Estela Gutierrez with 20 points.
Alli Ramelli,
Shayla Smothers, and
Madison Cox were the other three Red Hawks in double figures shooting a combined 70 percent from the field.
The Red Hawks had another impressive shooting night at 52 percent from the floor, while getting 16 points from their bench and holding Benedictine to 39 percent on the night in another all around victory.
SU improves to 16-9 and 7-3 in conference play so far and currently sits in the 3rd spot in the Cal Pac and now has their magic number at one to clinch a playoff spot.
Simpson finishes up a three game road trip at Pacific Union in Angwin, Calif. on Feb. 7th with tipoff set at 5:30 pm
