MESA, Ariz. - Simpson men's basketball is starting to be known as a second half team after completing yet another comeback, taking down Benedictine, after trailing by 18, 86-79.
55 second half points propelled the Red Hawks comeback as their field goal percentage increased by nearly 20 points from the first half to the second.
Jon Manjon had one of is biggest night's of the year tallying 20 points on 8-11 from the field.
JT Branch led Simpson in rebounding with 11 boards to go along with 13 points in his double-double effort.
Simpson's ability to knock down free throws was another huge advantage as the connected on 22 of its 28 at the line. BenUÂ was held to 42 percent in the second half including 0-8 from beyond the arc as Simpson outscored Benedictine by 22 points in the second half.
With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 15-8 and 7-3 in conference after sweeping Benedictine-Mesa in the two-game season series. Simpson hasn't won 15 games in a season since the 2015-15 season and now sits in 2nd place in the Cal Pac standings, two games back of the first place, Antelope Valley Pioneers.Â
Simpson can clinch a Cal Pac playoff spot with two more victories in conference out of the four remaining contests. The first of those four is next Thursday, Feb. 7th at 7:30 pm on the road at Angwin against Pacific Union College.
