REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University women's basketball picks up its 18th win of the season in a 74-67 victory over La Sierra University.
The Red Hawks led by as much as 15 points in the second half before La Sierra stormed back to cut the lead to one point with just over three minutes remaining. Simpson remained calm countering the Golden Eagles run with a finishing blow to give SU the win.
Simpson's tallied one of its top passing nights of the year with 22 assists resulting in four starters in double figures. Estella Gutierrez led the way with 13 points alongside four assists.
Alli Ramelli recorded a career-high seven assists to go along with 10 points and four steals.
Win number 18 on the season sets a career-high for wins in a season for head coach Derrick Pringle Jr. and the most since 2002 for Simpson women's basketball. With the win the Red Hawks have secured the 4th slot in the Cal Pac standings and will play the # 1 seed in the first round of the Cal Pac semifinals on February 23rd at 6:30 pm in Lancaster, Calif.
Simpson does have one regular season game remaining despite the fact a win doesn't change their seeding as the Red Hawks take on top-seeded Antelope Valley for the final home game of the year in the Grant Center on Sat. Feb. 16th.
