REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men's soccer recorded its first clean sheet of the year in the 2-0 conference win over Soka University.
Liam Bates was a large part of that in goal for SU finishing with nine saves in the shutout. The Red Hawks' first goal came off the boot of
Alfred Kander on a penalty kick after a fault slide tackle inside the box. Shortly after, Simpson doubled its lead when Kander placed a free kick in the perfect spot for
Joel Sterling to direct the ball off his head into the back of the net.
Both teams relentlessly were trying for goal with a combined 37 shots for the game, 15 on goal.
The Red Hawks tally win number two in the Cal Pac and will look to repeat what they did last year when they dominated the second half of conference to slide into the Cal Pac Playoffs. SU will take the pitch once again on Sunday at 1 PM on the Simpson Soccer Field against La Sierra.
