REDDING, Calif. - It was an action packed weekend for Simpson U women's volleyball that included a road win at Pacific Union and a home loss to UC Merced.
The Red Hawks Friday afternoon was filled with dominance. For the first time this season, Simpson had three attackers in double digits for kills including
Lily Johnson,
Jessilyn Ellenson, and Elena Giroudas. Setter,
Madison Stouder, was finding hitters left and right and ended the three set match with 45 assists. Defensively, SU was stellar as well. Libero,
Marianne Soria led SU in digs as she typically does, but also got lots of help from
Shawna Ogata (10 digs) and
Madison Stouder (8 digs).
Just a day later, the Red Hawks played host to UC Merced, one of the most talented teams in the Cal Pac. The four set match that finished with the Bobcats with the win, was back and forth most of the match.
After UC Merced, took the first set, the Red Hawks bounced back and took the second set evening the score. Merced regained their swagger in the third and fourth set that would round out the Bobcat win three sets to one.
Despite another outstanding statistical match for Simpson, the Red Hawks came up short at home.
Lily Johnson finished with a game-high 17 kills and
Ashley Collins recorded 12 from the middle blocker spot in the rotation.
The Red Hawks will now head to SoCal to take on the UAV Pioneers and Providence Christian College Sea Beggars on October 17th and 18th with live stats and video available
