REDDING, Calif. -- The Red Hawks finished with 5 scorers in double figures but were unable to pull out the win, falling to Maritime 71-67.
In a rematch of Cal Pac rivals, the game was a fight to the end. Neither team saw a huge advantage on the scoreboard and the stat sheet reflected just that. Simpson out rebounded Maritime 40-39, Maritime held the advantage in assists 15-13, and both teams shot just over 40% from the field.
Aaron Berry and
Blake Trent both finished with 15 points a piece and combined for 13 rebounds while
Jalen Cooper added 10 points of his own. The big men held a strong presence all night in the paint as both
JT Branch and
Jon Manjon relentlessly attacked the basket. Manjon totaled 14 points and 7 rebounds as Branch finished with his second double-double of the season tallying 13 points and 11 boards.
The Red Hawks still sit in 2nd among the Cal Pac teams as they hold the point differential over Maritime. Simpson hits the road for a 3-game road trip beginning with Embry-Riddle in Prescott, Ariz. on January 31st at 8:30pm.
