RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Simpson University women's basketball's strong 3rd and 4th quarter allowed Simpson to comeback after trailing by as much as 12 points to pull off the 65-63 win on the road.
The Red Hawks' starting frontcourt was vital in the Simpson win, as both
Shayla Smothers and
Madison Cox tallied double-doubles while also combining for 26 points.
Estela Gutierrez was one of the main cogs in Simpson's passing attack recording seven of the Red Hawks' 19 assists.
Despite a lackluster shooting performance at just 38.5 percent, Simpson continues to rely on its brick wall of a half court defense as its stronghold.Â
This is the 3rd time in Head Coach, Derrick Pringle, Jr's tenure that the Red Hawks have won at least 13 games. On the toughest 3 game road trip in conference, Simpson finishes it 2-1 and now sits in 3rd place in the Cal Pac at 5-2.
SU will be back home brief one game homestand against Cal Maritime on Jan. 26th at 5:30 pm in the Grant Center.
