REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University volleyball finally caught a break in a tough and exhausting non-conference schedule, able to win three consecutvie games at the Mills College tournament to improve to 3-7.
The Red Hawks began the weekend with a five-set thriller, where Simpson was able to pick up the 5th set win with an impressive 15-3 score over Mills College.
Once Simpson got its first win out of the way, the rest was smooth as the Red Hawks quickly got into sync and were able to rattle off six consecutive set wins, sweeping New Hope Christian and West Coast Baptist.
In the opening match of the tourney, SU had three players with double digit kills with
Jessilyn Ellenson headlining that group with 18 kills. The match two sweep was largely due to the duel setter lineup of
Ashley Cervantes and
Madison Stouder combining for 24 assists. Cervantes also led Simpson in digs, assists and was second on the team in kills in the 3rd match.
With the momentum of a three game winning streak, conference play couldn't be starting at a more perfect time for Simpson. The Red Hawks will begin conference on the road at Providence Christian College on Sept. 13th at 7 pm.
