INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Red Hawks pull of an unbelievable win with a late goal by Jimmy Alvarez with 14 seconds remaining in the second extra time.
After the game was tied from 71st minute on at 2-2, both teams had chances, but none were converted on until Alvarez drilled a header off of a corner kick from
Joseph Colmenero after being down a man due to an earlier red card.
The other two Red Hawk goals came from
Lucas Dias and
Taylor Sherman, as Sherman converted on a corner kick, again from Colmenero.
It now becomes waiting time. Simpson is vying for that final spot in the Cal Pac Standings to qualify fo playoffs, but needs UC Merced to beat La Sierra on Sunday. If La Sierra wins, SU's season will be over, but if La Sierra is unable to pull off the upset, the Red Hawks will advance to the Cal Pac Tournament as the #6 seed.
Simpson did nearly the impossible to get themselves into this spot; winning its final four games to give themselves a shot to get to the conference tournament.
