Red Hawks Hang with Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -  Just days after returning from a road win against a NCAA DII opponent, Simpson traveled to Sacramento State to take on the Hornets, this time a D I team.

The Red Hawks put up a fight all night long, but after taking the lead early on, Simpson woke the beast.

Sac State came to life after trailing 12-9 mid first half.  In a low scoring affair, defense took the spotlight for both teams as Sac State and Simpson shot below 41 percent from the floor. The Red Hawks shooting struggles began at the 3 point line.

Coach Franklin was optimistic about the exhibition affair, "The score might not show it, but this was actually a great test for us. With 12 minutes to go, we were down 10 and missed two front ends of 1 and 1s. We make those four free throws and things could get really interesting," Franklin said.

The SU scoring leaders were Blake Trent with 17 points, followed by Jon Manjon with 14. On defense, Kenneth Modica Jr. recorded four blocks and seven defensive rebounds.

Simpson remains at 3-1 and proved that they can play with one of the best teams in college basketball on the West Coast. Even though the Red Hawks didn't play an A+ game, they hung around a D I opponent, which bodes well for the rest of the season.

The Red Hawks will continue the marathon on their home court on Monday, November 12th, where they will look to bounce back against Portland Bible College at 7 PM.

Monday Night will be Military Appreciation Night presented by Red Lion in honor of Veteran's Day and all veterans will get free admission and will be recognized at halftime.
