Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Simpson comes from 18 down to shock Eagles

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson Red Hawks men's basketball trailed by as much as 18 before a huge run that led them to a 71-68 victory over Embry-Riddle.

"This was such a huge win for us because you don't want to begin to self-identify as the team who is always getting close, but never over the hump," Head Coach, Todd Franklin stated.

A number of clutch threes from Anthony Spencer gave the Red Hawks the momentum that was needed to complete the comeback. Spencer finished with a team-high 20 points shooting a perfect eight for eight from the free throw line. Jalen DuPree was the table setter again leading Simpson in assists with nine for the contest. Aaron Berry also tallied 18 points shooting a proficient five of eight from the field.

Simpson records back to back conference wins and all of the sudden sit just a game back of a playoff spot with six conference games remaining.

"After the Maritime game, you could begin to see the light come on that we actually can find ways to win these games so being down 18, while not the ideal situation, it didn't cause them to hit the panic button," Franklin said.

The Red Hawks trailed 50-34 before going on a 20-4 run to tie the game at 54 with nine minutes remaining. Simpson's defensive pressure caused issues for Embry-Riddle forcing 14 turnovers, five of which caused by Aaron Berry.
