Vallejo, Calif. -- Rivalry night did not disappoint as the Red Hawks took down Cal Maritime 83-76 Saturday night. The Keelhaulers took an early lead scoring 14 points in under 3 minutes to start the game. Coach Franklin shifted strategies implementing a press, shifting the momentum Simpson's way and from there on out the Red Hawks used their speed and athleticism to keep Maritime out of rhythm as they finished just 9-34 from beyond the arc. From top to bottom the Red Hawks came to play as four scorers finished in double figures.
Jalen DuPree led Simpson's offense with 19 points and 9 rebounds and
Aaron Berry added 15 points. In his first start of the season
Jalen Cooper added 14 points including three clutch free throws down the stretch and
Aron Rudd posted a double-double with a career high 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Anthony Spencer added some valuable minutes off the bench contributing 9 points on just under 50% shooting from beyond the arc.
Josh Brakkee was sidelined most of the game in foul trouble but came up huge in the late minutes of the game with two blocks including one on Maritimes leading scorer Randles. Senior guard DuPree silenced the Keelhauler crowd as he hit a 18 foot pull up jumper with under 40 seconds to go to seal the game.
