REDDING, Calif. -- Simpson men's soccer started off the season Saturday afternoon against the Lions from Multnomah University. 

The Red Hawks scored early in the first half on a beautiful header from Joe Colmenero as Brad Manivong picked up the assist on a gorgeous cross to set the tone in the 18th minute. The Red Hawks would be unable to sustain the pace as they would not be able to score again. 

The Lions had a very balanced attack managing 33 shots on goal but saw special performances from Nicolas Mboungou who finished with an assist and a goal and Hayden Smedley who scored twice.

Tristan Webb had an excellent game as he finished with 13 saves, but it was not enough as the Red Hawks fell 3-1.

Simpson looks to bounce back when they travel to Rocklin, Calif. to take on rival William Jessup on September 1st.
