REDDING, Calif.--Simpson battled William Jessup tonight in James M. Grant for a barn burner, resulting in a tough loss for the Red Hawks in the 6th game of the preseason. The back and forth competition between these 2 teams ultimately led the Warriors to victory with the final score 71-67.
The first half was heated as both teams battled to maintain the lead. Anthony Spencer picked up some early fouls and was sidelined for a majority of the first half. With Spencer out, Thomas Scriven saw some valuable minutes, coming off the bench and shooting 3-3 from beyond the arc including a huge transition three-pointer. Jalen Dupree hit a buzzer-beating running three to finish the half that gave Simpson the lead 35-33.
Jessup switched to a full court press that stifled the Red Hawk offense resulting in 12 turnovers in the second half. Late down the stretch, Simpson struggled from the charity stripe shooting just 12-22. The Red Hawks had just two players in double figures. Jalen Dupree led the scoring table with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists overall while
Aron Rudd added 10 points and three rebounds of his own.
The Red Hawks fall to 2-4 on the year and travel to Salem, Ore. to play in the Corban Classic on November 17th and 18th.
