Hustlin' Owls Force Decisive Game with Shutout Win

REDDING, Calif. - Oregon Tech pitcher Kelly Scott tossed a three-hit 3-0 shutout over top-seeded Simpson and the Owls staved off elimination in the first game of championship day at the 2016 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, Simpson Bracket. Scott out-dueled Simpson ace Paris Hallums, who gave up just five hits, but allowed three runs with two of them scoring on wild pitches.

McKenzie Shrum's suicide squeeze bunt scored the game's first run in the third inning. The second run came across in the same inning on a wild pitch from Hallums. The Owls made it 3-0 in the fourth after a leadoff double by Tara Moates, who would later score on another wild pitch.

The win for Oregon Tech forced a decisive game in the double elimination tournament.
