Simpson Buries PUC Early, Moves to 3-1 in League Play

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson women's basketball team stormed to a 13-0 lead to open Thursday's Cal-Pac Conference game with Pacific Union and led wire-to-wire for a 76-61 triumph at the Heritage Center. The win keeps the Red Hawks (3-1 Cal-Pac, 7-12 overall) just a game behind UC Merced in the conference standings at the midway point of the season.

Fallon Greenhaw led four Red Hawks in double figures with 17 points. Emma Limburg added 16, Esther Wofford 14, and Kelsie Jurin 12 for the victors. Wofford recorded her fifth double-double of the season and second straight with 12 rebounds as well. She dished out four assists and had four steals. Jurin led the team with five assists.

The Simpson defense forced 25 PUC turnovers and converted that into a 23-11 advantage in points off those miscues. The Pioneers controlled the glass by a 42-28 margin.

Ariel Barnes recorded a double-double for PUC with a game-high 21 points and 11 caroms.

Simpson heads to Chico State on Saturday for a non-conference tilt with the Wildcats.
