ANGWIN, Calif. - The Simpson University women's volleyball team swept future California Pacific Conference opponent Providence Christian College (25-16, 25-10, 25-20) on Sept. 3.
Red Hawk junior Madison Rinehart led both teams with 15 kills, and senior Jazmin Wallace recorded a season high 18 digs. Sophomore Ashley Cervantes had a big night with 16 assists and helped score 11 points for the Red Hawks.
Simpson dominated set one with a 25-10 victory. The Red Hawks posted 12 kills compared to Providence's five. In the second set, Providence was able to put up 16 points, but the Red Hawks still prevailed with a 25-16 win. In the final match, Providence gave the Red Hawks a fight and kept within five for the majority for the set, yet it wasn't enough as the Red Hawks completed the sweep by winning 25-20.
The Red Hawks will host both Chico State and rival William Jessup University on Sept. 7. Simpson will take on Chico State at 2 p.m. and William Jessup at 6 p.m. Both matches will be held in the Heritage Student Life Center.
