Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Furious Comeback Comes Up Just Short for WBKB at Corban

SALEM, Ore. - After digging itself into a 23-point defecit at the midway point of the third quarter, the Simpson women's basketball team rallied and cut the game to a one-possession contest with under a minute to play, but fell at Corban on Friday, 88-83.

Led by Esther Wofford's 25-point, 15-rebound performance, the Red Hawks outscored the Warriors 26-15 in the final period and after a three-point play by Whitney Rodriguez, trailed 86-83, but were not able to complete the comeback. Rodriguez tallied 13 points on the day. Kelsie Jurin added a career-high 22 points, 18 of which came in the second half. Wofford also led SU with six assists and three steals.

Simpson committed 14 of its 20 turnovers in the first half, and Corban converted those miscues into 15 points in building a 51-35 halftime lead over the Red Hawks.

For the game, SU shot 45 percent from the floor, but just 23 percent from behind the arc.

Corban was led by Jade Lowery's 39 points. Sadie Pilgeram recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Red Hawks return to action Saturday at Northwest Christian in Eugene, Ore. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
