Red Hawks Push Top Seed to the Limit in Cal-Pac Semifinals

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - What looked to be a potential semifinal upset after No. 4 seed Simpson won the first two sets (25-23, 25-18), top-seeded Embry Riddle took control and won the last three sets (25-12,25-14, 15-7) to advance to the Cal-Pac Volleyball Championships held Thursday at LaSierra University.

The Red Hawks scored the final five points in set one and rallied back to win 25-23. In set two, Simpson would ride the wave from set one, and dominate the Eagles winning 25-18.

Embry Riddle, however, responded like the regular season champions and regained its composure to eliminate Simpson, 3-2, winning the final three sets (25-12,25-14,15-7).

Ashley Cervantes had a stellar game with 39 assists and 24 digs. Playing in her last game as a Red Hawks, Jazmin Wallace recorded 23 digs. Madison Rinehart led the offensive attack with 24 kills and defensively added 18 digs on the night.

The Red Hawks made a remarkable turnaround from a year ago from a 5-23 overall record and 2-8 in the Cal Pac, to this year finishing 4th with a 5-5 Cal Pac record and 13-13 overall. Simpson made its first Cal-Pac Conference Tournament apperance since 2013.
