Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

First Half Burst Carries Merced Past Men's Soccer

MERCED, Calif. - UC Merced scored three goals late in the first half in a four-minute span to turn a tight game into a 4-0 lead, and the Bobcats held that margin throughout the second half to defeat Simpson, 4-0 on Wednesday.

The Bobcats tallied two scores a minute apart in the 33rd and 34th minute and then added another in the 37th after gaining the initial lead in the 6th minute. Simpson goalkeeper Michael Jones denied five shots on goal and recorded a scoreless second half, but the 4-0 lead was too much to overcome for the Red Hawks.

Four separate SU players recorded shots with Jacob Muniz recording the only one placed on frame for the offense. The Red Hawks managed a pair of corner kicks, but were unable to produce a goal. The loss snapped SU's unbeaten streak at one game.

Simpson travels to Cal Maritime on Saturday for an important Cal-Pac Northern Division showdown beginning at 1:00 p.m.
