Sam Nakata

Sam Nakata became the Sports Information Director (SID) at Simpson University in 2022. 

Prior to becoming the SID, Nakata was a graduate assistant baseball coach and tutor/peer mentor for Simpson’s ASC department. While attending his coaching duties he helped work various game day athletic events. 

Nakata has been a part of the Simpson community since 2017. He graduated in 2021 with his Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies and thereafter entered Simpson’s Teaching Credential and Masters Program. He completed his student teaching in 2022 and graduated the following summer in 2023 with his Masters in Education. 

During his time on the field, Nakata was a part of the men’s baseball team from 2017-2022. He earned recognition for his defensive play and efforts on the field as he was awarded an All-Defensive Team selection in 2021 and the Cal Pac Champions of Character Award in 2022. He is also the career putout leader in program history. In the classroom, Nakata earned a spot on the Cal Pac All-Academic team in 2021 and 2022 and was named Simpson’s Liberal Studies Student of the Year (2021).  

Nakata is from Kauai, HI and graduated from Kauai High School in 2017. He played three years of varsity baseball. During his time he was a KIF All-Star twice (2017-17), KIF Player of the Year (2017), a HHSAA D2 State Champion (2017), D2 All-Tournament team MVP (2017), and the D2 All-Hawaii Player of the Year (2017).
