Biography

College: Smothers is entering her Senior season playing basketball for the Red Hawks.

High School: Smothers played four years of varsity basketball at Black Hills High School. She received the Coach's Award her sophomore year, second team all-league honors her junior year, and first team all-league and all-area her senior year. She was also named team MVP her senior year. She played club basketball for team Way to Win.

Personal: Shayla is the daughter of Tracy Dahl and Steve Smothers. Her hobbies other than basketball include hanging out with friends and having friends. She also likes going on vacations and taking trips with her family and friends. Her career goal is to become either a host or broadcaster.

Reason for coming to SU: “I chose Simpson because I wanted to be in California and play basketball; I also wanted to pursue my career and strengthen my relationship with God.”

2015-16: 44% shooting average overall for the season, an average of 7 points and 5 rebounds per game

2016-17: With an increased role in her sophomore season, Smothers was either a spot starter or the first forward/center off the bench for the Red Hawks.

2017-18: In her third season, Smothers averaged 6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
