Coach Anthony Taylor enters his first year at the helm of the women's basketball program.
Taylor his first year with the Red Hawks as the assistant coach in 2023-24.
During his first season he was the lead basketball recruiter in charge of planning and recruitment schedule. Facilitated, monitored, and evaluated players individual skill and development. He was also responsible for the scouting of in season opponents and practice planning. He served as a Christian role model and mentor to the athletes.
Coach Taylor comes to Simpson with over 20 years of coaching experience at the professional and collegiate level.
Prior to coming to Simpson Coach Taylor has a decorated playing and coaching career on the court.
His first coaching job and experience was as an assistant coach (94-95) at Pacific Christian College which is now Hope International University. After one year, he was offered the number one assistant coaching position at Cal Baptist University.
As an assistant coach at Cal Baptist (95-99) he was responsible for:
Directed academic monitoring, recruiting, practice planning, player development, in-season opponent scouting and summer camps.
After gaining valuable collegiate coaching experience and several successful recruiting classes at Cal Baptist, he was offered a Professional Head Coaching position in Germany (99-2003). Where he coached for four years in the Top German Basketball League.
He had a very successful inaugural season and won a second division championship, which moved the team to its first Division league.
After returning to America in 2003, he resumed his coaching career at Mira Costa Community College as an assistant coach under legendary coach Clete Adleman (2003-05).
With growing family demands, Coach Taylor took a break from coaching and returned to Mira Costa community college in (2008-2018).
After his return to Mira Costa Community College, he was responsible for: Leading player skill development with emphasis on Point Guards and on-court coaching with offensive emphasis.
In (2016-17) he was named the head coach at Mira Costa for one season.
Coach Taylor had quite the playing career as well as he posted standout collegiate numbers and played professional overseas.
Anthony played his college basketball at Geneva College 1983-86 as a scholarship athlete. As the point guard, he led his team in assists.
After Geneva he signed a professional contract to play in Argentina (86-87).
Coach Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree from Geneva College in Political Science and his Master’s degree in Sociology from Cal State LA.
He is happily married to his wife Deborah and they have three children; Seattle, Shakespeare, and Michael.
