REDDING, Calif. - The women's soccer team came out on top over Cascade opponent Oregon Tech, 1-0.
A mid-day Saturday game at the soccer park began with a bang as the Red Hawks scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute.
An OIT foul allowed a free kick by
Anahi Gomez to find the foot of
Ellianna Keiser to score the game's first goal.
The Simpson defense kept the Owls attackers at bay as they kept up with the speedie strikers, mitigating the windows of opportunities. The Owls nearly tied the game in the 75th minute as a loose ball off hit the top of the post before being cleared free of the Simpson goal.
The Red Hawks' defense preserved the 1-0 shutout victory as
Jenna Sosa picked up the win in the posts, earning the clean sheet, which included three saves. The Owls took their shots as they outshot Simpson 10-5, with each team posting four shots on goal.
During the contest, three yellow cards were handed out by the officiating crew as the Red Hawks picked up two cards compared to OIT's one.
The Red Hawks are back in action tomorrow as they take on Life Pacific at 10 am at the Soccer Park. The Warriors are coming off a 2-0 loss against OIT on Friday.
