REDDING, Calif. - The men's soccer team earned their first win of the season today as they took down Lincoln 3-1 on a cold and rainy day at the California Soccer Park.
With a blink of an eye, the Red Hawks scored in the opening minutes as a corner kick by
Leon Hoang found the head of
David Guerrero as it banged off the Lincoln goalkeeper before
David Clavijo swooped in off the deflection to find the back of the net.
Lincoln answered back in the 59th minute as they capitalized on a key Simpson foul in the box to allow for a penalty kick. Christopher Ortiz beat the outstretched arms of
Julian Mejia to tie the game.
The Red Hawks scored the game-winner in the 66th minute as Sylvestre Quintero found the back of the net off a lobbed pass from
David Guerrero. Angelryna Banda added an insurance goal in the 88th minute off a pass from
Thet Naing to ice away the 3-1 victory.
Julian Mejia earned the win in the posts as he tallied three saves as each team notched 11 shots in the game.
The Red Hawks are back in action next week, Wednesday at 1 pm against Walla Walla University in College Place, WA.
