WHITTIER, Calif. - The Red Hawks Football team made history in its last road game as they took down DIII opponent Whittier College, 56-14.
The Red Hawks drew first blood in the first quarter and grew their lead to 28-7 as they headed into halftime.
Simpson continued to flex their muscle as they outscored the Poets 28-7 in the second half to close out the 56-14 victory.
The victory marked program history for the Red Hawks as they notched their first win in program history under first-year Head Coach
Trevor Utter.
Simpson dominated in every phase of the game as they compiled a program-best 676 total yards of offense on 73 plays while averaging 9.3 yards per play. The ground game proved to be vital as they registered 419 yards on the ground to go along wth seven rushing touchdowns.
On defense, the Red Hawks held the Poets to just 14 points as they surrendered 182 yards through the air and created two takeaways.
Eli Cortinas had a huge game on the ground as he led the Simpson rushing attack with 221 yards to go along with one rushing score and a 72 yard run.
Ivan Huerta led the air attack as he hauled in five passes for 136 yards and one touchdown.
Charlie Walden led the defense with six total tackles, while the two takeaways belonged to an interception by
William Weathington and a recovered fumble by
Felix Santiago.
The Red Hawks look to keep rolling as they head to Mayville State this weekend to take on the Comets at 2 pm (CST) on Saturday.
