Simpson drops the final two games of the Summer Slam

FULLERTON, Calif. - The women's volleyball team concluded their SoCal road trip today as they fell to The College of Idaho and The Master's University in straight sets to conclude play in the Summer Slam. 

Simpson dropped its first game of the day against No. 18 in the nation, The College of Idaho. 

The Coyotes displayed a stellar performance as they held a .395 hitting percentage as a team, notching 39 kills to seven errors. 

C of I held total control in the match as they took the early 6-4 lead and never looked back to take the first set 25-16 on back-to-back kills by Cora Young and Julis Baird. 

The Coyotes kept things rolling in the second set as they scored seven straight points before Brooke Sarahina posted back-to-back blocks. The Yotes sealed the second set on a 6-1 run to take the 25-13 victory. 

College of Idaho completed the straight set victory as they won the third set 25-18 in thanks to an early 11-3 lead that never evaporated. 

Mariah Napoleon led the team with nine kills while Brooklyn Jimenez led the defense with 10 digs. 

Simpson concluded the road trip and the Summer Slam Invitational as they fell to No. 15 in the nation, The Masters in straight sets: 25-19, 25-14, and 25-18. 

The Mustangs took the early 11-5 lead before the Red Hawks rallied for a 7-2 run to pull within one on huge kills by Kimora McKechnie and Louise Oliveira. But the Mustangs answered with five straight points to close out the first set victory on a 6-2 run. 

The Master's kept rolling as they went on a crucial 8-1 run to take the 18-10 lead before closing out the second set victory on a kill by Macy Gebhards. 

Simpson jumped out to the early 5-2 lead in the third set on kills by McKechnie and Oliveira. The Mustangs went on an 8-1 run before the Red Hawks answered back with a 5-1 run to tie the game as Emma Laurel and Tiara Manns each posted a kill. 

The Mustangs proved why they are one of the top teams in the nation as they went on a 12-2 run to take the commanding 24-12 lead before closing out the game on a kill by Gebhards. 

Napoleon added 11 more kills to the day as she led the team with nine digs. 

Simpson looks to head north this week as they take part in the Bushnell and Corban Tournament.
