Baseball splits with Westcliff on day one of play

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks earned a split on the first day of play against Westcliff today as they took the first game 12-9 before dropping a nail-biter in game two 7-6.

The Warriors drew first blood on a two-run double by Ryan Duron before the Red Hawks tied the game on RBI doubles by Cesar Ortega and Mario Catalan

Westcliff regained the lead after a three-run top of the third inning before the Red Hawks exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the inning as they hit around.

The big swings in the inning belonged to Eric Mora and JJ Torrente as they each drove in two runs on RBI singles.

But the Warriors tied the game in the top of the sixth inning as they plated four runs on two run knocks by Patrick Morgan and Landon Raskin.

The Red Hawks took the lead in the seventh as a one-out double by Torrente came around to score on a Westcliff error. Simpson added two more insurance runs in the eighth to extend its lead to 12-9.

Reliver, Nui Sato had it rolling as he allowed one run in 3.2 innings of work while striking out five batters to earn his first win of the year on the mound.

Torrente, Aloy, and Catalan led the Simpson bats with two-hit performances as they combined for four RBIs.
