SALEM, Ore. - The Red Hawks split the series from Corban today as they took game one 5-3 before dropping game two 10-5.
The Warriors took the early 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Kaiya Peterson and an RBI single by Brookelynne Morley.
The Red Hawks got on the board in the third inning as a leadoff double to begin the inning by Ariel Scgulzkump came around to score on a wild pitch.
Simpson took the lead in the fourth inning as they plated three runs on three hits. Schulzkump pulled the Red Hawks within one on an RBI single before Kahiwa Ili tied the game on an RBI double down the left field line and later scored on a wild pitch to give Simpson the lead.
Adriana Delaney added an insurance run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Simpson, starter Grace Chokjnacki quieted the Warrior bats as she tossed six scoreless innings after the three-run first. She picked up her second win in as many days.
On offense, Schulzkump and Delaney led the Simpson bats with two-hit performances as they combined for two RBIs.
Game 2:
Simpson drew first blood in the second game as a one-out walk to Rebekah Millan came around to score on a Warriors error. But Corban answered in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Peyton Foreman and Isabella Carattini.
Corban broke it open in the third inning as they plated eight runs on nine hits and one Simpson error to take the commanding 10-3 lead. Irene VanDyke, Shelby Hillyer, Peyton Foreman, and Destinee Estrada posted RBI base knocks.
Simpson's last gasp came in the sixth inning as they cut the lead in half, as they plated two runs off one hit and two Corban errors before the Warriors closed out the 10-5 game four victory.
Jessica Heck led the Simpson five-hit attack with a two-for-three performance while reaching base safely three times with a walk.
The Red Hawks are back in action this week, Friday, as they begin a four-game series with Bushnell, beginning Friday at 4 pm to kick off Senior weekend.
