Simpson falls against DI UNR

RENO, Nev. - The Red Hawks baseball team fell today as they took on DI opponent University of Nevada, Reno.

The Wolfpack jumped on Simpson's starters in the first inning as they plated five runs on just one hit as they benefited from five free passes. The big swing of the inning came from Jackson Waller as he stroked a bases-clearing double.

Simpson clawed back in the second inning as they plated three runs as Duke Aloy and JJ Torrente notched RBI knocks while Aden Munoz added a sacrifice fly.

But the Wolfpack plated seven runs over the next two innings to take the commanding 12-4 lead. Mikey Cruz Jr. and Jacon Doyle highlighted the big innings as Cruz Jr. slugged a grand slam in the third and Doyle stroked a two-run blast in the fourth.

Simpson's last rally came in the sixth inning as Munoz ripped a two-run double down the right field line while Torrente posted a sacrifice fly.

UNR's Sean Yamaguchi added another long ball in the sixth inning as the Wolfpack cruised to an 18-7 victory.

Six different Red Hawks toed the bump as starter Brendan Moore took the loss, as he went 1.0 inning of work before handing the ball to the Simpson bullpen.

The Wolfpack deployed five different arms as Luke Schat earned the win, as he fired 2.0 scoreless innings in relief of starter Dominic Desch.

Eric Mora and Aloy led the Simpson offense with each posting a two-hit game, while Munoz went one-for-one with a walk, a sacrifice fly, and three RBIs. He also set the single season record with 21 stolen bases in a season. Jackson Berry set the season record with 14 hit by pitches.

Simpson looks to bounce back as they begin a four-game series with Westcliff tomorrow, beginning at 2 pm.
