SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Simpson baseball team dropped the twin-bill today as they fell in their four-game series against DII opponent California State San Marcos.
Simpson drew first blood in the first inning on a solo blast by
Owen Hayes to take the early 1-0 lead.
But the Cougars answered back with a five-run second inning to take the 5-1 lead on two key RBI doubles.
The Red Hawks chipped away as
Duke Aloy posted an RBI double in the fifth inning before
Eric Mora tied the game in the sixth inning on an RBI double down the left field line.
However, the Cougars exploded in the seventh inning for 10 runs off seven hits as they sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning.
Simpson scratched across three runs in the final inning before falling in game three 15-8.
The Red Hawks posted nine hits offensively as
JJ Torrente and
Tyler Haruta paced the offense with two-hit performances.
Game 2:
Back-to-back scoreless innings to begin the game saw the Cougars post a crooked number in the bottom of the third inning as they plated five runs on a two-out rally.
Simpson plated a run in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, but could not overcome the early deficit as the Cougars expanded their lead in the sixth inning with their second five-run inning of the game.
The Cougars committed five errors, but they stroked 15 hits while holding the Simpson bats to just two hits in game four.
Simpson continues its road trip this Tuesday as they take on La Sierra on Tuesday for a doubleheader that begins at 11 am.
