REDDING, Calif. - Simpson's Flag Football team dropped its home opener against La Sierra 26-15 on a windy afternoon.
The Golden Eagles drew first blood on a two-yard touchdown pass to take the 6-0 lead before extending their lead in the second quarter to take the 12-0 lead into halftime.
La Sierra went up 18-0 midway through the third quarter before the Red Hawks responded with a two-yard touchdown scamper by
Sophia Wright to get on the board.
Simpson's last gasp came as time expired as Wright found
Hailey Cruz in the endzone before converting on a two-point conversion with Wright finding a wide-open
Debora Aguirre.
However, the Golden Eagles hung onto the 26-15 victory to improve to 5-1 in GSAC play.
Quarterback Wright accounted for two of the Red Hawks' touchdowns as she rushed for one and passed for another.
Taylor Zalunardo and Kylie Shultz each posted nine stops on defense as
Imani Watkins and Aguirre posted an interception.
For the Golden Eagles, quarterback Ariana Rivera passed for four touchdown passes while Grace Galdamez caught nine passes for 97 yards and two touchdown receptions.
Simpson returns to action on Saturday as they take on Hope International at 12 pm.
