REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson baseball team began its three-game series against DIII opponent Caltech with an 11-3 game one victory to begin the weekend homestand.
The Beavers drew first blood in the first inning as they began the game with a leadoff double, which came around to score on an RBI single by Mark Hu.
The Red Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by
JJ Torrente before retying the game in the fourth inning on an RBI double by
Tyler Haruta.
Simpson grabbed its first lead of the game in the following inning on Torrente's second RBI knock in the game.
The Red Hawks never relinquished the lead as they added three huge insurance runs on a three-run blast by
Jackson Berry in the sixth and a four-run eighth inning to take the commanding 11-3 lead as
Cayden Lee and
Bo Valladao posted RBI base-knocks.
Simpson starter
Daniel Aceto picked up his fourth win of the year as he posted a quality start by firing 7.0 innings while allowing two runs and striking out six Beavers.
On offense, they posted 15 hits while
Bo Valladao and Torrente led the Simpson bats with three-for-five performances as they combined for four RBIs. Berry added two hits off the bench, which included a three-run blast in the sixth inning.
First pitch for tomorrow's twin-bill is scheduled for 11 am as they conclude the three-game series with Caltech.
